Product Type Waffle Dobby
We often task our Japanese partner mill with admittedly challenging textile requests. “Can you make a soft denim?” and “Please weave this fabric by hand” were two requests for this season… This Waffle Dobby fabric resulted from yet another odd request, this time “Can you translate a waffle knit into a waffle woven?” Per usual, our partner mill embraced the challenge and created this style for us. They opted for a dobby technique to create a waffle grid but increased the grid’s scale to distinguish it from the real thing. Simple enough, sure, but when viewed closely, the grid reveals itself as an intricate web of twists and irregular weaves far more complex than a true waffle knit.
