Not just another run-of-the-mill plaid, our Green Brushed Ikat references the stylistic hand of an Ikat Madras with the heft of a Cambridge Oxford cloth. Hand-loomed at our partner mill in Chennai (formerly Madras), India, this fabric utilizes dip-dyed yarns to create its distinct Ikat motif. For those unfamiliar, Ikat fabrics are characterized by yarns that change color throughout the weave. To achieve this, the yarns themselves must be systematically dyed at precise intervals before weaving and placed perfectly within the weave itself. If that sounds difficult to pull off, well, that’s because it is.

Woven just for us at our family-owned and operated partner mill in Chennai, India, this fabric was crafted over the course of months. The process started with dip-dying yarns by hand to create Ikat’s characteristic ombre. Once the yarns were set, each yarn was manually placed into hand looms so their colors would align correctly. Though the entire process took around five times as long as standard, machine-made fabrics, there’s simply nothing quite like a handmade Ikat. -
