While most of our Madras styles are drawn from our own archives, this cloth follows a different path. Jamaican Bandana carries deep cultural and historical resonance, and we are honored to incorporate it through our collaboration with Nicholas Daley.
Though its origins trace back to the mills of Madras in India, the fabric’s true significance begins with its arrival in Jamaica in the nineteenth century. First worn as a lightweight cloth by laborers, it gradually evolved into a powerful symbol of national identity and pride. It's closely tied to figures like Miss Lou and to Jamaica’s national costume, and its iconic red plaid now holds associations with resilience, creativity, and cultural continuity.

Characteristics:
All of our Archive Madras fabrics are cut and sewn from the same Italian-made fabric. Why? Because we find it to combine the perfect balance of weave clarity, vintage slubbing, and weight. Plus, just like a madras fabric should, this fabric performs best on warmer days. Wear it alone or with layers when temperatures begin to drop.We offer free shipping for all orders within the USA and international orders over $300. International orders under $300 are shipped at a flat rate of $30. Returns and exchanges will be gladly accepted within our policy guidelines.
