Neckwear
Grenadine ties have long set the bar for neckwear, prized for their elegance, breathability, heritage styling, and remarkably complex construction. Their magic is in the fabric: an intricate jacquard weave creates a distinctly open, gossamer-like structure, lending remarkable texture and dimension without unnecessary weight.
Our latest grenadine adds another menswear mainstay to the equation with a classic repp stripe woven across the grenadine ground. We love when traditions collide, and this meeting of collegiate stripes and old-school Italian grenadine hits right where we like it.
Proper grenadine remains exceedingly rare, with only a handful of mills still capable of producing it. Ours comes from Fermo Fossati, founded outside Como, Italy in 1871 and recognized as Italy’s oldest silk-weaving mill. Woven on their grenadine looms dating to the early 1900s, we can confidently assert that this is a truly special textile.
For all the complexity that goes into weaving grenadine, turning it into a tie is refreshingly simple. At our North Carolina neckwear facility, each is crafted completely by hand without the use of machinery. Just a needle, thread, scissors, and plenty of experience. Many of the folks who make our ties have been with us for decades, including our most experienced tie-maker, whose forty-year tenure at Gitman is reflected in every piece.

Characteristics:
Our Grenadine fabric comes from Fermo Fossati , Italy's oldest silk fabric mill and the third oldest in the world. With more than 150 years of textile experience, Fermo Fossati executes all aspects of the fabric production processes in house. From raw silk processing to yarn dyeing and weaving, their production techniques ensure only the highest possible quality of Grenadine. Their 100+ year old looms create what's called an "English Gauze", where two warp yarns are twisted together around the weft yarns and back through the entire weave. This allows the fabric to maintain and open construction and transparent appearance without sacrificing structure and drape.
